Practice Areas: Criminal Defense / OWI / Driver's License Restoration

ANTHONY R. TOWESON is a member of Butler, Toweson & Payseno- PLLC. Since joining the law firm in 1994, Tony has dedicated his practice to criminal defense litigation and driver license appeal hearings with the Office of Hearings and Administrative Oversight of the Michigan Department of State. A significant portion of his practice focuses on DUI/OWI defense, implied consent hearings and all driver license appeals with the Michigan Department of State. His successful representation of clients is matched only by the respect that local judges share for his honest, deliberate and ethical approach towards his clients and the court system.

Tony enjoys a sterling reputation among colleagues in the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and the Criminal Defense bar as a principled and zealous advocate for his clients. He combines his advocacy with genuine care for his clients’ long-term welfare, including active involvement of recommended counseling to reinforce lifestyle changes to prevent recurring issues with the law.

Over the past 30 years, Tony has been an ICLE sponsored presenter at many drunk driving seminars throughout the state of Michigan. These seminars are attended by prosecutors and defense attorneys who benefit from Tony’s deliberate, focused, and detailed analysis on issues of alcohol and substance abuse interaction with the law. He has also participated in many drunk driving detection seminars with law enforcement personnel from southwest Michigan. Finally, Tony advises successful drug and sobriety court participants on how to obtain restoration of driving privileges upon completion of this specialty court protocol.

For years, Tony has co-authored a chapter in ICLE’s Michigan Drunk Driving Law and Practice publication.

Tony’s passion for accountability from and assistance to his clients in taking back their lives after their criminal law encounter has been a key to his and Butler, Toweson & Payseno’s continued success.

He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and its Criminal Law Section, the Indiana State Bar (Inactive Status), the Kalamazoo County Bar Association, and is a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation.

An avid Notre Dame football fan, Tony and his family reside in the Kalamazoo area.
